Traditionally, the most popular flight destinations were Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Kazan.

In the second half of the summer the traffic intensity at the airport was unprecedented.  For the first time in history in August passenger flow exceeded 1 million passengers, a record of 44 thousand people a day was scored and the number of incoming and outgoing flights reached 250 per day. 16 airlines were making flights by 57 routes. For the first time in the history of the airport, a direct flight to Vladivostok was launched, and after a pause of several years, flights to Irkutsk, Khabarovsk and Pskov were resumed.

As the Director-General of the Simferopol airport Evgeny Plaksin noted, the past year for the Crimean air gate, as well as for the entire air industry, was very difficult. In the first half of the year, due to COVID-19, there was a sharp drop in air traffic, and in the second half, after the start of the holiday season, there was a sharp growth in passenger traffic.

"The boost growth in the summer passenger traffic was another trial in 2020.  Simferopol Airport has become the main transport gateway to Crimea and it was able to handle record tourist traffic without interruption.  The preservation of an extensive route network made it possible to ensure the transport accessibility of Crimea, which contributed to the rapid recovery of the tourism industry in the region after the COVID-19 crisis.  As a whole, the airport employees last year confirmed their high professionalism and ability to solve the most difficult tasks in any conditions," concluded E. Plaksin.
