The theatre opened on 20 April 1910. Its architecture is a blend of the classical style and Art Nouveau. It is believed to be one of the most beautiful theatres in the south of Russia. It can seat up to 900 people.
Many famous performers have appeared on the theatre's stage, including Yevgeni Vakhtangov, Konstantin Stanislavsky, Feodor Chaliapin and Alexander Vertinsky.
