The writer built this house, Belaya Dacha, in 1899 and lived there until 1 May 1904. Here Chekhov wrote In the Ravine, The Lady with the Dog, The Bishop, At Christmas Time and Betrothed as well as Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. The museum's main collection has over 16,000 items, including Chekhov's personal archive and artefacts that belonged to his family, as well as 7,300 auxiliary items.
