The museum is located near the polis that was founded by ancient Greeks and survived until late 14th century. The complex features the remains of old Byzantine temples, as well as buildings dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries, such as the Chersonese Bell, the monastery and St Vladimir Cathedral built to mark the 900th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus.
