One of the oldest museums in Russia and Europe, the Antiquities Museum opened in 1811. Today, its collections have over 70,000 exhibits. The eight-hall museum displays archaeological artefacts, ethnographic materials, documents, as well as collections of old postcards, minerals, fossils and a herbarium. Part of the collection of old paving stones are on display in the museum courtyard, which is paved with medieval flags, as well as blocks dating back to the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
