The remains of an ancient settlement are located in the Leninskiy district on the Kerch Peninsula, 5 km from the Azov Sea.
Artesian was a first ancient Greek colony, then a fortified settlement of the chora of the Bosporus kingdom. Existed in the 6th century BC – 4th century AD. The settlement occupied an area of 7 hectares and was fortified with ramparts and ditches, had a citadel and isolated forts. Artezian was one of the largest fortresses in the Crimean Azov region.
Excavations on the territory of the settlement have been conducted since 1988.
