There are 37 large health resorts in the district, and hotels and private houses for accommodation.

The sun shines brightly from April to October, and the water warms up to +28°C in July and August. There are no rivers nearby, so the water is crystal clear.

The district is famous for its diverse beaches: wild pebble, pebble & sand, and sand beaches as well as small bays along the coast. There is a yellow-sand beach with shells and no breakwaters in Chernomorskoye, as well as the Miami sand beach in Olenyovka, which is considered among the best in Crimea.

The borders of the district match those of the Tarkhankut Peninsula.

This location creates a unique microclimate for recreation and relaxation. All services are available, as well as ample opportunities for environmental, archeological, active and sea sport tourism (such as windsurfing and kitesurfing). Sandy sections of the coast alternate with cliffs, grottos and plateaus, making it an ideal place for diving and surfing.Туристы на берегу Черного моря на мысе Тарханкут в КрымуThe waters of Tarkhankut are always clean and warm, with unique flora and fauna

What to do

  • The waters of Tarkhankut are always clean and warm, with unique flora and fauna. It has numerous tunnels and grottos and the best diving conditions around. There are several diving centres on the cape and the fascinating Alley of Leaders underwater museum with sunken Soviet monuments near its coast. The average diving depth is 3-20 metres. There is a diving school and rental shops that offer group and individual lessons. People with disabilities are also taught diving here.
  • Olenyovka is the closest village located on the shore of a salt lake. Wind conditions in the summer are good for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Kitesurfing schools and camps are organised there regularly. There also are rental shops. In addition, the EXTREME Crimea Festival of Extreme Sports is held there in July-August, where people can take part in workshops and watch professional athletes compete.
  • The Greater and Small Atlesh capes are located on either side of the village, with bays, sea grottos, caves, arches and inselbergs weathered out of its limestone. There is also the Ichtiandr underwater house as well as sunken ships. Greater Atlesh is famous for its through grotto; there is also a tunnel under Small Atlesh where cabin cruisers and tourist boats can sail.
  • Tarkhankut Peninsula is also home to the Atlesh Landscape and Recreation Park which includes the cape, the bay with an underground tunnel and the Bowl of Love: a small pool connected with the sea. The park covers 260 hectares of steep 40 m sea cliffs, stone arches, steep slopes descending to the sea, small bays inaccessible from land and underwater solutional caves with underwater discharge of subsurface waters.

  • In addition, there are 11 plant, 3-4 mammal, over 20 surface and 10 sea invertebrate species as well as 11 fish, 2 reptile and at least 15 bird species.
  • Crimea's deepest lake, Donuzlav, is located in the district. Originally it was a sea gulf separated from the sea by a sand spit 9 km long and 200-600 m wide; the water is brackish. The lake becomes so narrow and shallow in its upper section that it looks more like a river. It is freshened by spring water, which is why water and swamp plants unusual for plain Crimea can be seen there.
  • Located between the lake and the Black Sea, the Belyaus sand beach, stretching for seven kilometres, has foundations of a Greek and Scythian town, and is a popular place for camping.
